Overview
The Citadines Uplands Kuching is located on a major roadway in Kuching. It can be a bit tricky to get to, as the roads are divided one-way streets. Parking is available in an underground carpark, but we didn’t need to utilize it, as our local friends provided our transportation. There is a mini mart (with limited hours) in the commercial area at ground level that has cases of bottled water for a good price. We also found some tasty snacks there. The Citadines Uplands Kuching has a lovely pool, as well as a jacuzzi and children’s wading pool. Breakfast was included in our room rate. We found the breakfast to be more than sufficient. There was a wide selection of food & drink, and we definitely started our days with full stomachs. The front desk staff greeted us immediately upon arrival, and check-in was efficient. It was fun to say “selamat pagi” (“good morning” in Malay) to them each morning as we walked past on our way to breakfast.
Our room cost averaged $61.00 USD/night, including daily breakfast!
Location
Directly across the street is The Spring shopping mall, which we visited several times. From the Citadines Uplands Kuching, there is a foot bridge across the roadway that allows for easy passage to the mall. The Spring has a full supermarket (Ta Kiong), where we bought yogurt (for our travel gut health!) and water, water, and more water. We ate dinner once at Nando’s restaurant, and another evening we enjoyed eating at the large food court (The Spring Foodbazaar).
The hotel is approximately 12 minutes from the Kuching International Airport (KCH) and 15 minutes from the Kuching Waterfront.
Our Room
The hotel required use of your room key card in the elevator to access your room floor, which was a nice security feature. Once in our room, there were two A/C units. These were essential with the hot, humid weather in Kuching. If we weren’t careful, it could actually get downright cold in our room! We soon found our perfect temperature setting. Temperature control, combined with room to spread out and comfortable beds, allowed us to sleep fitfully each night. We did not have any trouble with exterior noise either.
Clientele
We actually didn’t see a lot of other guests, even though The Citadines Uplands Kuching is a fairly large hotel. Even at breakfast, our group was sometimes the only ones there. Maybe it was a timing thing? Oddly enough, the laundry facilities were always fully in use. I even folded an Australian woman’s laundry! You can read about it HERE.
The Citadines Uplands Kuching would work well for a solo traveler (studio), a couple (1-bedroom), or up to a family of 5 (2-bedroom). There are also adjoining rooms for even larger families or groups.
My Favorite Part
By far, having 2 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms was wonderful! The spaciousness of the room was great for our family of 4. There was room for everyone and everything and then some! It is really nice to be able to put the kids to bed, close their door, and not have to worry about making the slightest noise that might wake them.
My Least Favorite Part
Since we had packed only 4 days of clothes, plus one dressier outfit, we knew we would have to do laundry every few days. The Citadines Uplands Kuching does have a laundry area. However, there are only 3 washers and 3 dryers, and they were always being used. We had to stay up really late in order to get our laundry done.
