Several months back, my Dad asked me to attend a conference with him in Nashville, Tennessee. For me, Nashville is one of those places that I just love! I can’t exactly explain why…it just is. My mind started running with all the possibilities, and then…oh, right, what about the kids and homeschooling?
We usually travel as a family, but this trip would be different. It wouldn’t make sense for our entire family to attend the conference. We had a dilemma. And then…my Mom offered to stay at our house and homeschool our kids, while my Dad and I were at the conference and my husband was at work each day!
Brilliant! What this meant for me, however, was that I needed to create homeschool substitute teacher lesson plans, which I had never done before.
Iām beyond thrilled to be partnering with Sonlight Curriculum for the 2018-2019 school year as a Sonlight Ambassador. After using Sonlight from the beginning of our childrenās formal education (6 years & counting!) and loving it, Sonlight has provided me with HBL E, Science E, LA E (including optional supplements & handwriting), and an art elective, for our school year. I look forward to sharing with you as we explore Americaās history from the mid-1800s to present time. All opinions are 100% my own.
Homeschool Substitute Teacher Lesson Plans
Back in the day, my Mom was a teacher. I knew that she would teach well and that our children would be receptive to her teaching. And reading Sonlight books, in general, happens in many ways in our home no matter what (see next pic!). It was my job to facilitate the teaching by providing easy-to-use, comprehensive homeschool substitute teacher lesson plans.
Lucky for all of us, besides Sonlight’s more well-known benefits, the curriculum also makes preparing homeschool substitute teacher lesson plans a breeze!
Note: These copies never left our house, were only for our family’s use, and are now tucked safely in my IG binders. š
I made copies of the four IGs (Instructors Guides) that would need to be utilized (we had worked ahead in Science). Older Daughter is in 4th grade, and Younger Daughter is in 1st grade.
Sonlight has everything scheduled in such an orderly manner. All I had to do was jot down a few notes for my Mom.
VoilĆ ! Homeschool substitute teacher lesson plans!
While I looked forward to some time with my Dad and a short break from the regularly-scheduled program, I also didn’t want to miss what was going on in our homeschool. Truth be told, I read the rest of Across Five Aprils before heading to Nashville, so I would know how the story ended! I gotta tell you…this book was a Civil War education. The way Sonlight teaches history has actually made history more interesting to me (yes, me, the nerdy accountant!).
Our kids thought it was great to get their own copies of the IG schedule as well. I normally write their daily work on small white boards (I’ll show this in a future post!), but I decided to give them IG copies to follow along each day.
Needless to say, the homeschool substitute teacher lesson plans (that Sonlight made possible) worked amazingly well. My Mom taught four complete school days, and I was told that everyone had a great time! It was a win-win all the way!
