How to Get Lime Dye in Minecraft

How to Get Lime Dye in Minecraft

Lime dye is one of the more complicated dyes to obtain in Minecraft. One reason being: although many Minecraft dyes use flowers, such as orange dye from orange tulips, pink dye from a pink tulip, red dye from a red tulip or rose bush, light blue dye from a blue orchid, black dye from an ink sac or the rare wither rose, and light gray dye from a white tulip, oxeye daisy, or azure bluet, lime dye only uses a flower for making white dye–and that’s optional.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn the three ways to obtain lime dye. Lime dye from smelted sea pickle involves the most risk–if you’re not playing in Peaceful or Creative mode, beware of Drowned and drowning. Lime dye from green dye and white dye involves the most time. Lime dye from a wandering trader involves the most luck.

So, none of the ways to obtain lime dye are really good, but it’s one of the more vibrant colors, and the lime color can add a personal touch to anything. It takes many various items, but the following steps will have you sporting lime dye in no time!

Lime Dye from Sea Pickles

Probably the most well-known way to make lime dye is by smelting sea pickles. Sea pickles are found in warm ocean biomes. Here is a seed containing a warm ocean biome:

  • -3375484215128613710. The warm ocean biome is at 256, 63, -541.

Once you’ve found a warm ocean biome in your Minecraft world, the sea pickles will be in the coral reefs, on the ocean floor. Swim down to the bottom (beware of Drowned, unless you’re playing in Peaceful or Creative mode) and harvest the sea pickles. You can do this with your hands, any tool, or any block (if the need possesses you).

Sea Pickles

Once you safely have at least one sea pickle, craft a furnace with your crafting table. (A blast furnace won’t work, and neither will a smoker.)

Put eight blocks of cobblestone in a ring around the edge of your crafting grid. You should get a furnace. Place it on the ground.

Put at least one sea pickle in the top slot of your furnace and put your chosen fuel source (a kelp block will burn for twenty items) in the bottom slot. Once a sea pickle has finished smelting, it’s turned into lime dye!

While not the only way to obtain lime dye–there are different ways–using smelted sea pickle is a common way to get lime dye.

Lime Dye from Green Dye and White Dye

One way to get lime dye is by crafting green dye and white dye together. There are three ways to obtain green dye. You can go to the desert and make some cactus green dye. Here is a good desert biome seed:

  • 1738801. Has a village at spawn point.

Once you’ve arrived in your desert biome of choice, find some cacti. Be careful–touching a cactus block will give you one point of damage per 0.5 seconds, so it takes 10 seconds for death by cactus. If you have armor on, you’ll take less damage, but the armor takes the damage instead. You can mine a cactus block with your hands or any tool.

Once you’ve gotten at least one cactus block, craft a furnace with your crafting table, as detailed above. Place it on the ground. Now put that piece of cactus in the top slot of the furnace, and put your chosen fuel source in the bottom slot. The cactus block will smelt into cactus green.

Desert Furnace

Another way to get green dye is desert villages, which sometimes have chests with green dye. The last way to find green dye is by trading a wandering trader for it.

To obtain white dye, craft bones into bone meal, and the bone meal into white dye, or craft a lily of the valley flower (you can find these in a birch forest or flower forest biomes) into white dye, or trade a wandering trader for it.

Then craft the green dye and the white dye together. (You don’t need to use your crafting table to craft lime dye. I did anyway.) Voila! You have lime dye!

Lime Dye from a Wandering Trader

When a wandering trader comes by your base, it might just be selling some lime dye. It’s a possibility that this wandering trader will be selling three lime dye for one emerald.

Although this way is one of the more easy ways to obtain lime dye, you do need the luck of first, having a wandering trader stumble into your front yard, second, that trader has to be selling lime dye, and third, you need to have an emerald to buy it. So maybe buying lime dye from a wandering trader isn’t as easy as it sounds.

All the Things You Can Do With Lime Dye

There are many things you can do with lime dye. You can craft lime concrete powder, which, when you pour water on it, becomes lime concrete. There are actually two ways to obtain lime wool. You can get white wool and dye it lime green, or you can dye a sheep lime colored and then shear it using shears.

With this lime wool, you can make a lime bed, or you can dye a white bed using lime dye after the bed is crafted. Another use for lime wool is crafting it into lime color carpet or a lime banner.

Candles can be crafted together with lime dye on your crafting table. You can dye terracotta with lime dye, and then glaze it in a furnace to obtain glazed lime terracotta. If you need some stained glass, try the lime color! By placing eight blocks of plain glass around the edge of your crafting grid, and putting lime dye in the middle, you obtain eight blocks of lime stained glass.

If you’re a bold adventurer who has gone to the End and obtained shulker boxes, you can dye those shulker boxes lime! Just craft a plain shulker box together with some lime dye on your crafting table to get a lime-colored shulker box.

You can also craft lime firework stars with lime dye by putting one piece of lime dye and one of gunpowder on your crafting table. If you want to, add multiple dye colors to your firework stars for a multi-colored explosion!

One more thing you can do with lime dye is put it in a cauldron to dye your leather armor and leather horse armor. You can do all of these things with different dyes, such as green dye, white dye, yellow dye, pink dye…any dye you choose!
